This is a fabulous bike tour that's relatively easy but with some uphill sections. On the way you'll discover some of the wonders of Sicily.

 

Highlights include:

• Panoramas of Mount Etna (3323m). Stunningly beautiful, it's Europe's largest active volcano and has been erupting at intervals for the past 500,000 years.

• The Alcantara area - a protected natural park. Here the river runs through channels made by an ancient lava flow, the main attraction being Gole dell'Alcantara - a 50m canyon with spectacular waterfalls.

• Acireale, like much of eastern Sicily, is of Greek origin and has intriguing architecture.

• The Norman castle at Aci Castello is located on the beautiful basalt columns formed following an ancient eruption which reached the coast here.

• Explore beautiful Taormina and picturesque villages on the mountainside and along the coast.

• Enjoy delicious local specialities including the famous Bronte pistachio nuts.

DAY1: Arrive at Nicolosi; check into b&b

DAY 2: Nicolosi – Adrano – Bronte 44km

DAY 3: Bronte – Maniace - Randazzo 40km

DAY 4: Randazzo – Verzella – Gole dell'Alcantara – Giardini Naxos 41 km

DAY 5: Giardini Naxos – Taormina- Giardini Naxos 20km

DAY6: Giardini Naxos - Acireale 42km

DAY 7: Departure.

Why not add a few days to your trip and wind down on Mount Etna's splendid golf course?

 

The highly respected Picciolo Golf Club (18 holes, par 72, 5870m) opened in 1989. It has a beautiful location 650m above sea level among vineyards and ancient oaks on the north-east slopes of Mount Etna. There are spectacular views of the volcano from just about every hole. Excellent accommodation is also available at the club itself.
